DIY beadlocks
Mar 25, 2009 - 8:31 AM - by Will
Here we go. After building and running Kupe's beadlocks at Harlan last fall, I decided that would be the route I take with my wheels/tires. I run a 36" SX and they are stiff suckers that don't want to bulge at 10lbs of air pressure on non-beadlock wheels so something had to be done. Kupe was kind enough to trade me his steelies off of his street tires for my aluminum wheels that I ran the SXs on.

Here's what one set looks like before any fabbing takes place. You have one wheel, one inner ring and one outer ring.

The next step is the second biggest PIA of the whole process, grinding the powdercoat off of the wheels. If you don't get it completely clean, you're going to be hating... [Read More]
CJ7 2-pc to 1-pc axles- swap
Mar 15, 2009 - 12:18 AM - by Kerrdog
Being a Jeep Noob I've had my challenges while working on my rig. Thanks to the folks on WW I am able to find my way. Many times, however, I get lost in the technical jargon of those more experienced. So I wanted to provide a write-up for people who are just like me... Jeep ignorant and learning! My Gallery has pictures that show the whole procedure. It is condensed, here, as a matter of convenience.

This swap was not hard. But there are some tools that are needed that you may not have in your shop/garage. Having a friend with experience is a big plus, especially if you run into trouble. It took us about 4 hours and we did not work fast.

1) First, you must jack up the back of your Jeep. Get both rear wheels off the ground. If using a jack, be sure to provide jack stands in addition to your floor jack. Stay Safe!

2) Remove the wheels.

Head up: Harlan to charge $35 annual trail fee.
Feb 21, 2009 - 7:28 AM - by Carey
According to info on KYMC's forum, it has recently been passed that Black Mountain ORV area will be charging an anual fee per vehicle to use the park. The proposal is $35 per toy (vehicle or atv) per year with no additional fee for passengers. They are still hammering out the details, and are discussing different packages for people who drive more than one toy (ex: guy alternates trips between his Jeep & ATV), and possibly family discounts for families with multiple vehicles.

All money is supposed to go back into the park, and should provide better security, trail development and maintanence, signage, etc.

While it was nice wheeling for free at Harlan, this looks like a necessary step forward and can only do good things for the park.

I also think that this is a fair fee. While $35 would be higher for a one day trip (if you were to never return), once you consider 3 or 4 days of wheeling, it's far cheaper than any other parks' fees.

Tonka took Lance and I down here today its off Highway 16 between Wilkesboro and Jefferson NC. I was actually suprised there was a good bit to do here. The creek is awsome and could get pretty challenging in some areas. Theres a nice waterfall here also that could be fun. We didnt have time to see the whole place and Id like to spend a good day out there. Tonka can post better directions for those interested......

Sorry no pics my camera is dead...............
